You couldn’t blame the Fort Campbell Lady Falcons if they were feeling like the grinch around the holidays.  After Sunday’s 62-8 loss to Adair County, Fort Campbell saw their losing streak extend to 90 games dating back to 2016.  But the team and their fans picked up a win Sunday.

The Lady Falcons played in the Russellville Food Bank Classic over the weekend.  Organizers set up collection boxes at the entrance to Russellville’s gym to collect food items to be distributed to several food banks in the Logan County area.  They were hoping to collect 3,000 pounds of food in the tourney’s first year.  That would average out to 188 pounds for the 16 schools and fans competing in the event.

Fort Campbell and their small contingent of players and fans came through the entrance each day with their donations.  When the dust settled Sunday, the small team with no wins in three-plus seasons had donated 901 pounds of food – 150 pounds more than the next school.  Their donations helped the tourney collect over 3,400 pounds of food items for the various food banks and meet their goal.

That’s what the military does.  They watch out for everyone and help the people that need to be helped.  And they proved that to Russellville and Logan County this weekend.

Coach Larry Dixon and the Lady Falcons return to the hardwood Jan. 3 against Hopkinsville as they look to snap the state’s longest losing streak in girls’ basketball.  However, the weekend of giving by the Fort Campbell players and fans proved that not all wins and losses are measured on the scoreboard.
