The Madisonville-North Hopkins Lady Maroons continued their impressive start to the season Saturday evening. The Lady Maroon defense held the Russellville Lady Panthers to under 30 points, as Madisonville rolled to their 7th straight win, 69-25, in the Food Bank Holiday Classic at Russellville. The win was the Lady Maroons second of the day in the tournament.
With Lindsey Peyton leading the way, the Lady Maroons got out to a 21-15 lead after the first quarter. Peyton scored eight points in the game’s first eight minutes.
From there, the Lady Maroon defense was stifling. Madisonville clamped down on Russellville, and did not allow the Lady Panthers more than five points in a quarter for the rest of the game.
The Lady Maroons blew the game open in the 2nd quarter, taking a 37-19 lead into the locker room at the break.
In the third quarter, Madisonville held the Lady Panthers to a single free throw, as they moved the lead out to 56-20 and enacted the running clock for the entire 4th quarter.
Reserves saw extensive action over the final eight minutes as Madisonville rolled on out to the final 44 point margin.
The Lady Maroons were led by Courtney Peyton with 15 points, 13 of them coming in the first half. Camryn LaGrange and Lindsey Peyton also reached double figures with 12 points each.
Russellville was led by Brinley Mason and Macaria Hines with five points each.
