The Hopkinsville Lady Tigers found the rims at Union County uninviting on Saturday, scoring in single digits in two quarters and falling 61-35 to the Lady Braves. The Lady Tigers see a two-game win streak stopped to stand at 4-4, while Union County heads into the Christmas break on a three-game winning run and improve to 5-2 overall.
Mati Hagan and Madison Morris combined for all of Union County’s 18 first-quarter points and they led 18-7 after one. Lakayla Samuel was the lone offensive force for Hoptown, scoring 5 in the first and 6 more in the second quarter, but they were doubled-up at the half 34-17.
Samuel continued to carry the scoring load after the break, adding 9 of the Lady Tigers’ 16 points in the third, but Hagan scored 10 and Morris chipped in 5 to help Union outscore Hoptown 17-16 and take an 18-point advantage to the fourth.
There would be no comeback for the Lady Tigers, as a Donisha Flowers bucket was their only points over the final eight minutes. Flowers came in averaging a team-high 18.3 per game, but was held to 4 in the 26-point loss.
Samuel was the only Lady Tiger in double figures with 20, while Shaterrea Bellamy finished with 6.
For Union, Hagan’s 22 led all scorers, followed by Morris with 18.
