Todd County Central’s chance to salvage a win at the Hebrews 12 Coffee Christmas Classic at Butler County came apart as they lost a lead to the host school and lost 68-62 Saturday.
Butler County led 20-17 after one quarter, but the Rebels battled back throughout and took a 48-43 lead into the fourth quarter. However, the unbeaten Bears hit some big shots down the stretch and hit just enough free throws to grab their eighth straight win to start the season.
Earlier in the day, Todd County lost to Murray 71-35. The Tigers jumped out to a 25-5 first quarter lead 44-9 at halftime. Murray shot 70-percent for the game on 28-of-40 shooting. They hit 13-of-21 behind the arc as nine players scored in the game. Grant Whitaker scored nine of his 17 points in the first quarter.
Austin Rager scored eight points for the Rebels, while Anthony Johnson added six points.
Saturday’s losses came a day after a 55-41 loss to Owensboro Catholic in the opener.
Todd County Central (2-6) will play in the Beef O’Brady’s Danny Annis Memorial Tournament after Christmas at Ohio County.
