Lady Maroons Move Into Top Slot in YSE Girls’ Super 7

There is a change at the top of this week’s YSE Girls’ 2nd Region Super 7. The change is not so much about what one team did not do, but what another team did. Madisonville rolled throught the Food Bank Holiday Classic and just looks really good right now. Nothing against Henderson County. The good news is that we have a matchup between the two coming up in the early part of 2020. And, lurking right behind them are the Webster County Lady Trojans. The question still is can anyone else threaten the top three come tournament time.

1 – Madisonville (9-0) – The Lady Maroons swept their way through the Food Bank tournament and now head off to Florida. Mark down January 3rd on your calendar, as the Lady Maroons will travel to McCracken County for what ought to be a dandy, and tell us more about just how good this team could be.

2 – Henderson County (5-2) – The northern Lady Colonels have yet to play an opponent from the 2nd Region. That all changes on January 17th, when they start a string of region games, including a big one at home against Madisonville on January 18.

3 – Webster County (4-4) – The Lady Trojans had a good trip to the Traditonal Bank Holiday Classic, going 2-1, with only a loss to Dunbar keeping it from a perfect trip. This is still a very dangerous team, that could well make the trip to Rupp Arena come the end of the season.

4 – Christian County (2-5) – The southern Lady Colonels have played a really difficult schedule early in the season. If they can find a way to get more consistent offense, they could be a problem for any team on any given night.

5 – Caldwell County (4-3) – The Lady Tigers still appear the team to beat in the girls’ 2nd Region All A Classic. They play hard-nosed and physical. Consistent shooting from outside and how they handle pressure are the two keys that will determine just how much stronger this team can be.

6 – Trigg County (6-2) – After going 2-1 in Russellville, the Lady Wildcats are off to their best start in a long, long time. They are winning the games they are supposed to win. Now, they look for one of those wins that can build both confidence and regional status.

7 – Union County (5-2) – The Bravettes are off to a decent start in the 2019 portion of the 2019-2020 season. This team figures to get tested in the Murray tournament this weekend. Later in January, they will get into 6th District play, where we will get a good chance to see if they can contend for a regional tournament berth.
