Pinson Valley Rallies Past North Little Rock at Hoops Classic (w/PHOTOS)

Kam Woods scored 49 points and hit the game-winning 3-pointer with 1.4 seconds to play as Pinson Valley, Ala., rallied past North Little Rock, Ark., 84-82 Friday night in Princeton.

The final game of the opening day at the West Kentucky Hoops Classic featured the No. 1-ranked team in Arkansas and the defending Class 6A state champion from Alabama.

North Little Rock (7-3) took a 44-33 lead to halftime and held the upper hand much of the contest.

But Pinson Valley (13-3) kept firing away from long range and slowly got back in the game.

The Indians took an 81-80 lead late, but North Little Rock’s Spencer Simes scored on a drive to the basket at the other end to give the Charging Wildcats an 82-81 advantage with 13 seconds left.

But Pinson Valley got the ball to Woods in the closing seconds. Woods knocked down a highly-contested 3 from the top of the key to provide the winning margin for the Indians.

Woods, who entered the game averaging 35.7 points a game, had 11 3-pointers as part of his 49-point performance.

Simes led North Little Rock with 28 points.

Woods and Simes were named the MVPs from Pinson Valley and North Little Rock, respectively.
