Northeast Knocks Off Caldwell in West Kentucky Hoops Classic Finale

Marcus Averhart scored all 16 of his points in the third quarter — including four 3-pointers — to help Clarksville Northeast pull ahead for a 56-39 victory over Caldwell County.

Isaiah Farrior had 20 points for Northeast (9-3), which knocked off the Tigers in the final game of the West Kentucky Hoops Classic Saturday at the CAB gym in Princeton.

Down 14-12 after one quarter, Caldwell (4-6) briefly took the lead in the second period before Clarksville Northeast got to halftime with a 26-21 advantage.

The Eagles then used a 20-9 margin in the third quarter to stretch their lead to 46-30, and Caldwell could never make a run in the final period.

Tripp Branch was the only player to score in double figures for the Tigers, finishing with 16 points.

Farrior was the game MVP for Northeast, while Branch won the award for Caldwell.

Northeast, which was playing in the Caldwell County event for the second straight season, finished 2-0 after beating Paducah Tilghman on Friday.

The Tigers were 0-2 in their own event. Caldwell had entered the West Kentucky Hoops Classic on a four-game winning streak.

The Tigers return to action on Friday, Jan. 3, with a home date against Carlisle County.
