A 31-point second quarter and big nights from Jacey Jaggers, Jada Boyd and Bella McConnell carried Caldwell County’s girls to a 76-63 win at Dawson Springs on Thursday.
Jaggers buried six 3-pointers while totaling 30 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Boyd scored 20 points and added five steals, four boards and two assists. McConnell had 12 points and a team-high 11 rebounds.
The game was tied 15-15 after one quarter, with a late 3-pointer by Abby Ward drawing Dawson Springs even after 8 minutes.
But Caldwell (5-5 overall, 1-0 district) scored the first eight points of the second quarter as part of a 14-1 run to grab the upper hand.
Jaggers hit three 3-pointers in the second quarter to help the Lady Tigers build a 46-35 halftime lead.
Jaggers had nine points in the third quarter as Caldwell went up 63-45.
Another Jaggers 3 early in the fourth period gave Caldwell its biggest lead at 68-45.
However, Dawson Springs (4-8, 0-2) battled back and threatened to make things interesting down the stretch.
A 14-0 run got the Lady Panthers within 68-59 following Denisha Randolph’s basket from in close with 3:23 to play in the game.
But Caldwell got back-to-back baskets from Boyd and Majah Hollowell to settle things down while holding on for the 13-point decision.
Jaggers, a junior, was 12 of 18 from the floor, including 6 of 9 from behind the arc. Her six 3-pointers are just one shy of the school record. Leslie Fraliex hit seven against Christian County in the 1994-95 season.
Dawson Springs got some big individual efforts of its own in the setback.
Freshman Brooklyn Clark had 27 points while senior Denisha Randolph scored 19. Ward, a freshman, added 12 points for the Lady Panthers.
Caldwell is back in action on Friday when it visits Paducah Tilghman. Lady Tiger head coach Chuck Mitchell was an assistant with the Lady Tornado last season.
Dawson plays again on Tuesday when it hosts Crittenden County.
The Lady Panthers will visit Caldwell County for a rematch on Jan. 28.
