No change this week at the top of the YSE Girls’ 2nd Region Super 7. The top three have distanced themselves from the rest of the pack at this point of the season. The Lady Maroons continue to be impressive early in the season, while Henderson County has still yet to play another team from the 2nd Region. The next few weeks could settle some things at both the top and the bottom of the list of seven. Interesting to keep your eyes on this as it develops in January.
– Madisonville (12-0) – The Lady Maroons go to Florida and pick up their second holiday tournament championship of the season. A big test coming up to open 2020 as they go to McCracken County January 3 to take on the Lady Mustangs. You knew this team could be good this year, but I don’t know that anyone expected them to be unbeaten headed into January.
– Henderson County (5-4) – The northern Lady Colonels have only played three games against Kentucky teams, none against a 2nd Region team, and they won all three. They will finally play a region opponent on January 17. They take on the Lady Maroons the very next night.
– Webster County (4-6) – The Lady Trojans record is deceptive in a couple of ways. Their schedule has been very tough, and they have been dealing with some early season injuries. Expect this team to be better, possibly much better by tourney time.
– Caldwell County (4-5) – The Lady Tigers appear to be the favorites at this point to win the Girls’ 2nd Region All A Classic. This team plays solid defense, but consistent offense could be the big key for them going forward. The Lady Tigers get into district play coming out of the holidays.
– Christian County (3-8) – The Lady Colonels from the south have struggled to find an offensive stride so far this season. The status of Trinity McGee going forward could have a big impact on the rest of the season for Christian County. January 24 could say a bunch about the 8th District, when they Lady Colonels have a return matchup with Hoptown.
– Trigg County (10-2) – The Trigg County Lady Wildcats are off to their best start in a long, long time. They are winning games they are supposed to win and often doing so in impressive fashion. Still, there are some tests ahead for this team that will give us an indication of just where this team stands as 2020 arrives.
– Crittenden County (7-4) – The Lady Rockets opened the season 1-3. Since then, they have gone 6-1, with the only loss coming to a solid Grayson County team. A big 5th District rematch coming up January 10 when the Lady Rockets travel to take on Trigg County.
