Hopkins County Central is in the market for a new football head coach.

Stephen Wood is stepping down from that post after four seasons of leading the Storm football program.

“Coach Wood ran a high integrity program in which he helped mold his football players into quality young men,” said Hopkins Central athletic director Kent Akin. “We are very appreciative of the four years that Coach Wood led our program and the high quality manner in which he did it.”

Wood was 9-33 as head coach of the Storm.

Hopkins Central went 4-7 his first season in 2016 but lost to Franklin-Simpson 61-6 in the first round of the Class 4A playoffs.

The Storm was 2-9 in 2017 but again made the playoffs. However, Hopkins Central fell to Franklin-Simpson again, 43-6.

The Storm went 3-7 in 2018 but failed to qualify for the postseason.

Hopkins Central went 0-10 this past season and has dropped its last 16 games on the gridiron.

The Storm’s last win was a 19-6 decision over Todd County Central on Sept. 7, 2018.

The Hopkins Central head coaching position is posted online at www.hopkins.kyschools.us.

Anyone interested in applying must apply through the website.  Any other information about the position can be asked by emailing Akin at kent.akin@hopkins.kyschools.us.
