
The freight train that is the Madisonville-North Hopkins girls’ basketball team kept rolling down the tracks on Tuesday night, taking a 40-6 lead over Hopkinsville into the halftime locker room before cruising to a 51-31 victory. The Lady Maroons stay unbeaten while bringing a three-game Hoptown winning streak to a screeching halt.
The Lady Maroons led 10-0 after a 3-pointer by Courtney Peyton and went on to lead 18-2 after the first quarter. Peyton and Camryn LaGrange combined for 12 points in the second and Madisonville led 40-6 at the break.
With a running clock, the Lady Maroons put it on cruise control after halftime, but still held the Lady Tigers to only 3 third-quarter points and led by 40 with a quarter to play.
With the game decided, Jakayla Epps knocked down a couple of 3-pointers and Lakayla Samuel got going with 6 points to make it more respectable for Hoptown. Donisha Flowers, the Lady Tigers leading scorer at 16.4 per game, was held scoreless on the night.
The Lady Tigers will look to put this one behind them when they travel to UHA on Friday for an 8th-District matchup with the Lady Blazers.
