Putting their size advantage to good use, the Madisonville-North Hopkins Maroons powered through a valiant effort from Hopkinsville to secure a 69-54 victory Tuesday night at Maroon Gym. The Tigers drop their second-straight, while the Maroons halt a two-game skid to remain unbeaten against 2nd-Region teams.
Don Victor scored 5-straight to give the Tigers and early 1-point advantage, but Madisonville big man K’suan Casey scored 8 of the Maroons’ 10 first-quarter points and they led by a point after one.
Kenny White dunked in transition off a pass from Deljuan Johnson to give the Maroons a 6-point edge with 4:38 left in the half. Victor scored on consecutive possessions to cut into the lead, but Madisonville closed on an 8-0 run for a 33-20 halftime score.
A Victor 3 trimmed the lead to 10 at 40-30, but the Maroons answered with 10-straight, including 6 from Johnson, to blow the game open with 2:48 left in the third.
Javon Smith-Rudd opened the fourth with a 3-pointer and Jamarcus Burks scored on a putback to pull the Tigers to within 14, but that was as close as they got. White scored on consecutive trips and Casey followed with an and-1 put the game away.
