We figured at some point this season, things might get a bit chaotic in the top seven. The first full week of the new year sees some shuffling in the order of things, outside of the top two positions. UHA makes the biggest move of the week, coming off their most impressive win of the season. Lyon County holds on, but is in danger of falling out of the top tier of the 2nd Region. With all of that said, here is a look at this week’s YSE Boys 2nd Region Super 7.
– Madisonville (12-3) – The Maroons continue to look like the class of the region at this point. It does appear that for the Maroons to be among the state’s elite, they have to find a way to keep Kenny White on the court. In losses to Lexington Catholic and John Hardin, foul problems cut into White’s playing time, in some cases, in key moments.
– Webster County (13-1) – The Trojans just keep on winning at this point. They did get a bit of a test Tuesday night from the Crittenden County Rockets. The January 17th rematch with Hopkinsville should tell us a little bit more about the Trojans. Still hard to get a good grasp on this team at this point in the season.
– University Heights (6-8) – If they play like they did against Christian County Tuesday night, the Blazers can be a problem for anyone. That kind of performance will also make UHA a very difficult out in the All A Classic. A big showdown against Hoptown coming up on Friday night.
– Henderson County (9-7) – The northern Colonels have picked up solid back-to-back wins. Still, with only two of their 16 games against 2nd Region opponents, it’s hard to get your bearings with this group. That should change with games against Union County and Madisonville coming up.
– Hopkinsville (7-8) – The Tigers have shown flashes of potential over the last few weeks. Still looking for consistency and a signature moments from this team. A matchup Friday night against University Heights affords Hoptown that opportunity.
– Christian County (6-9) – The question right now for the southern Colonels may be how do they respond to what happened to them Tuesday night against UHA. Not much time to dwell on it, as they have games against Madison Central, McCracken County, South Warren, and Hopkinsville coming up.
– Crittenden County (7-8) – The Rockets enter the Super 7 after they put a beatdown on Lyon County and then played Webster County deep into the 4th quarter. Watch out for this team come All A regional and 5th District tournament time.
