Trigg County will look to take the next step in the Class 2A Championships this weekend at Calloway County. Both teams will play Union County in the semifinals.

Trigg County (6-7) carries a three-game winning streak into Friday’s semifinals. They are coming off a 52-51 overtime win over Hopkins County Central in Tuesday’s quarterfinal. Last year, Trigg lost to Warren East 79-54 in their Class 2A opener.
A look at the Wildcat ledger shows they have beaten the teams they should have, but there were some questionable losses before Christmas. Coach Chad Burgett said a holiday trip to Martin, Tenn., where his team lost two of three games, saw them start to correct some of the defensive woes that plagued them in their seven losses.
Union County (6-7) has lost six of their last eight games and have had to deal with some personnel changes. The Braves scored just 49 points in losses to Ashland Blazer and Lewis County over the weekend.
The other semifinal pits Webster County (13-1) and Calloway County (10-6). Friday’s winners will meet in Saturday’s championship game at 6:00. The Section I winner will advance to the Class 2A Championships State Tournament in Owensboro Thursday where they will play the winner of Section 6, which includes Lexington Catholic.
Meanwhile, the Lady Wildcats carry a school-record nine-game winning streak into Saturday afternoon’s semifinal with the Bravettes. Trigg’s 13-2 start is also a program best. The lady Wildcats are giving up just 40 points a game defensively and haven’t lost a game when they allow fewer than 50 points a game.
Union County (7-5) has won two straight after losing three straight at the Murray Bank Lady Tiger Classic.
The other semifinal features Webster County (4-7) and Calloway County (7-6).
Saturday’s winners meet Sunday afternoon in the championship 3:00. The Section I winner will play in the Class 2A State Championship Tournament Friday in Owensboro against the winner of Section III, which includes teams from the Bardstown area.
Because of Trigg’s participation in the Class 2A Championships, their Friday doubleheader with Crittenden County has been postponed to a later date. Also, the Trigg boys’ game Saturday at Evansville Christian has been moved to Tuesday.
