
Looking to right the ship after a three-game losing streak, the Lyon County boys’ basketball team took a quarter to get going before building a lead that carried it to a 75-51 win over visiting Livingston Central on Friday night. The Lyons improve to 4-1 in 5th-District play with the Homecoming night victory, while the Cardinals remain winless on the year.
Lyon County found itself trailing 14-9 after 5-straight points from Livingston’s Everett Garrett, but the Lyons closed the first quarter on a 7-2 run to tie it up at 16-16.
After Lyon’s Jackson Shoulders provided the scoring punch with 9 first-quarter points, Travis Perry took over in the second. Perry scored 6-straight to give the Lyons a 7-point edge with 4:52 left in the first half and would finish with 11 in the quarter. Nick Whalin scored 7 over the final three minutes of the half to power an 11-2 run for a 42-23 halftime score.
Lyon County cruised in the second half, with Trey Hawkins knocking down his third 3-pointer of the game to end the third quarter with a 25-point cushion. The Lyons led by as many as 32 in the fourth quarter, before coasting to the 24-point victory.
The Lyons will be back on the court on Saturday when they face Hopkinsville in the Toyota of Hopkinsville Classic at Christian County High School.
