
The Lyon County Lady Lyons earned their second 5th-District win of the season on Friday night in Eddyville, jumping out to an early lead and holding off Livingston Central 55-42. The Lady Lyons joined the boys’ team in the victory column on Homecoming night, while also snapping a three-game losing streak ahead of a meeting with Fort Campbell in the 2nd Region All “A” tournament on Monday.
The Lady Lyons jumped out to a 10-0 lead after a 3-pointer by Cathryn Brown and rode 8 points by Rose Smith to a 14-4 lead after the first quarter. Ella DeFew scored down low to stretch the margin to 19 points with 4:25 left in the first half, and Lyon County led 28-13 at the break.
Smith and Brown combined for 10 third-quarter points and the Lady Lyons led by as many as 19, but Lauren Wring chipped in 10 to keep the Lady Cardinals within 15 with a quarter to play.
With the score 43-30 after a short jumper by Livingston’s Ayla Salazar, Lyon County went on a 12-2 spurt, capped by a Brown 3-pointer, to seal the victory. The Lady Cardinals scored the last 10 points of the game for the final 13-point margin.
