Lyon County advanced to the semifinals of the Girls’ Second Region All-A Classic with a 46-10 win over Fort Campbell Monday in Eddyville. The Lady Lyons will play Dawson Springs Thursday on the Lady Panthers’ home court.
The Lady Lyons started three seniors against the winless Lady Falcons. Both teams struggled to find the basket early as they combined to miss 25 shots in the first quarter. Lyon led 6-3 after the first eight minutes.
Lyon found their footing midway through the second quarter. Five different Lady Lyons found the scorebook in the second frame as they outscored the Lady Falcons 14-2.
Lyon County won two main stat lines in the game – outrebounding Fort Campbell 48-28 and forcing 25 Lady Falcon turnovers. 25 of Lyon County’s 48 rebounds were on the offensive glass.
Eleven Lady Lyons scored in the game. Kayden Watts and Gracen Wynn each scored seven points. Cathryn Brown hit a pair of 3-pointers to finish with six points.
Fort Campbell’s Asia Cabili hit a pair of 3-pointers and finished with a game-high eight points. Marissa Cole had the other bucket for the Lady Falcons, who have dropped nine straight to Lyon County dating back eight years.
Both teams missed all eight of their free throw attempts with just eight fouls called in the game.
Fort Campbell will travel to Fort Knox Friday to play the Lady Eagles in an Army bragging rights game.
Lyon County will play Dawson Springs in the All-A semifinals Thursday.
