For the second year in a row, the Lyon County Lyons and the UHA Blazers will meet in the semifinal round of the 2nd Region All A Classic. Last season, the Blazers blew open a close game in the second quarter on their way to an 86-63 win. UHA would go on to beat Livingston Central in the regional title game, and then run the table in Richmond to take home the All A Classic state championship.

This year’s game between the two teams will be the 12th time they have met in the 2nd Region All A Classic since 2000. The Blazers have won 9 of the previous 11 games. The last time the Lyons knocked off the Blazers in the All A was 2009, when Lyon County came away with a six point win.

The 2019 meeting, played in front of a packed and loud crowd at Dawson Springs saw University Heights up 25-21 after the opening quarter. The Blazers then hit the Lyons with a 13-0 run to take control of the game, and take a 10 points lead at the break. UHA would then stretch the lead out in the second half and never be threatened on the way to the victory.

For Lyon County, there will be several players who saw significant action in that game who will be on the court Friday night. Most notably, 8th grader Travis Perry and sophomore Jackson Shoulders are back. That duo combined to score 32 points in the matchup in 2019.

UHA, on the other hand, will return only one of its top four scorers from last year’s game, that being Will Bryan, who finished with 12 points in the game. The Blazers’ top three scorers from the game, KyKy Tandy, Drew McGowan, and Taquan Hollowell, all graduated this past spring.

Both teams have seen their struggles in the first half of the season. UHA appears to be finally finding its stride, as the Blazers have won four of their last five, including district wins over Christian County and Hopkinsville. The Blazers also ran all over Crittenden County Tuesday night on the Rockets home court.

Lyon County has won its last two, after losing four of the previous five, including a 28 point loss to Crittenden County.

The game is set for Friday night at 6:00pm at Livingston Central.
