Not much movement this week in the YSE Girls’ 2nd Region “Super 7.” However, there are some matchups over the next several days that could lead to some upheaval in the rankings come next week. The biggest of those is this Saturday’s game between #1 Madisonville and #2 Henderson County. Ah, now we are getting to the fun part of the season.
– Madisonville (16-0) – The Lady Maroons are rolling along. Only two opponents have come within ten points of them, and only one opponent has scored more than 50 points, and that team still got beat by 21 points. Big game, I mean, big game, coming up Saturday, when the Lady Maroons take on defending regional champion Henderson County.
– Henderson County (6-6) – The northern Lady Colonels have lost four of their last five against a very difficult schedule. We get the chance to find out a bunch about this team as they battle Madisonville this Saturday in the biggest girls game of the season so far in the 2nd Region.
– Webster County (4-8) – The Lady Trojans have now dropped four in a row, including a concerning loss to Calloway County in the 2A tournament. Still, they appear to be a team that could cause some problems in the post season, and appear to be above the best of the region at this point.
– Trigg County (14-3) – The Lady Wildcats had a nice run in the 2A tournament, reaching the sectional title game before falling to Calloway County. They would be the heavy favorites in the 5th District at this point, and could prove a handful for somebody in the opening round of regional tournament play.
– Caldwell County (8-6) – The Lady Tigers are dealing with not having Jacey Jaggers in the lineup. Filling her scoring shoes could be the key for this team in the All A Classic, and going forward for the rest of the season. A big game with Crittenden County coming up tonight.
– Christian County (5-8) – The southern Lady Colonels are trying to re-establish their identity with the loss of Trinity McGee. Big wins over Clarksville and Lyon County were a pretty good start. They have some time off until a January 21 trip to Bowling Green.
– Crittenden County (10-4) – The Lady Rockets have been playing much better over the past month. They have won 9 of their last 10 games and appear to be building momentum. How much momentum they have we will likely discover tonight as they take on Caldwell County in the All A regional semifinals.
