Maroons Locked in at #1 in YSE Boys’ Super 7

It still looks pretty much the same at the top of this week’s Boys Super 7. Madisonville continues its vise-like grip on the #1 spot, while there is a battle brewing for the number two postions. There are some changes at the lower end of the seven, with some games looming that could shuffle things even more. All that said, we are headed into the stretch drive, and there are still several teams with questions yet to be answered.

1 – Madisonville (17-3) – The Maroons keep on rolling along in 2nd Region play. Lyon County and Henderson County did extend them a bit though. However, the Henderson game was without Ksuan Casey on the court. Still, they are right now the heavy favorites to win the 2nd Region.

2 – Webster County (17-2) – The Trojans have won their last four, although the Hoptown game was a battle down to the wire for the second time this season. A big stretch coming up with games against Union, Caldwell, Lyon, and Henderson. A run of games that will test the mettle of this squad.

3 – University Heights (10-8) – Going into Thursday’s All A matchup with Murray, the Blazers have won five straight, including two 8th District wins, putting the Blazers in good position to lock down the top seed in the district. This team appears to be getting things rolling at a very good time.

4 – Henderson County (11-9) – The northern Colonels are going to be a tough out in the postseason, but are still a team that could be surprised if they are not careful. They struggled to beat a short-handed Union County team, but fought the Maroons tooth and nail. A big one coming up January 31, when they take on Webster County.

5 – Hopkinsville (9-12) – The Tigers very nearly took down Webster County on the Trojans home court. If you are Webster County, you do not want to see this bunch again. A solid win over South Warren indicates this team may also be putting things together. Big stretch coming up with games against Christian County, UHA, Henderson County, and Trigg County.

6 – Caldwell County (9-9) – The Tigers make an appearance this week in the Super 7. They have won five of their last seven, and looked really good in pushing UHA to overtime in the 2nd Region All A championship game. A team that plays hard from tip to final horn is never fun to play in the postseason.

7 – Lyon County (10-8) – The Lyons have lost five of their last seven games. The saving grace for the moment is their performance in their game against Madisonville, where they gave the Maroons all they could handle in Eddyville. Cames coming up against Webster and Caldwell will tell us more.
