A strong second quarter sent Trigg County to a 56-48 win over Caldwell County and snapped a 17-game losing streak to their border friends to the northwest.
The Lady Wildcats ended the first quarter on a 6-0 run and ended the first half on a 10-2 run to take a 31-21 lead into halftime. Trigg hit 8-of-11 shots from the field and scored seven points off five Caldwell turnovers in the frame.
Caldwell battled back in the third quarter to cut the lead to 34-32 on one of four Bella McConnell 3-pointers in the game. Trigg’s Rylee Bush scored five points during a 9-1 run that pushed the lead back out to 10 points with 2:08 left in the quarter. The Lady Tigers didn’t get closer than eight points the rest of the game.
McConnell had a huge game for the short-handed Lady Tigers. In addition to her four 3-pointers, she hit 8-of-9 free throws and finished with 24 points and 11 rebounds. Jacey Jaggers added 14 points. Caldwell played without four players, including senior point guard Jada Boyd whose season is likely over with a knee injury.
Bush led Trigg County with 15 points and six rebounds. Olivia Noffsinger hit a trio of 3-pointers to finish with 10 points, and Marleigh Reynolds added 11 points and four rebounds.
Trigg County scored 18 points off 18 Caldwell turnovers.
