The Lyon County girls’ basketball team bounced back in a big way from Wednesday’s 64-40 loss to West Carter in the All-A State Tournament, using a hot-shooting 21 points from Cathryn Brown to dismantle St. Mary 56-32. Brown would finish a perfect 9-9 from the floor, including 3-3 from 3-point range, with her only miss coming on her only free throw of the night.
Brown scored 10 and Gracen Wynn knocked down three 3-pointers for all 9 of her points, and the Lady Lyons led 21-11 after the first quarter. Kaitlyn Burrus kept St. Mary in the game, accounting for all 11 points.
Lyon’s Brown scored 7 more in the second and Burrus matched her, once again providing all of the Lady Vikings’ scoring, and the Lady Lyons led 33-18 at halftime.
Lyon County put the defensive clamps on Burrus out of the break, holding her scoreless in the second half. Rose Smith scored 5 of her 7 in the third quarter and the Lady Lyons led by 23 going to the fourth.
After not getting on the scoresheet for the first three quarters, St. Mary leading scorer Chiara Doran got hot in the fourth, scoring 9 points on three 3-pointers. Brown scored 4 of the Lady Lyons’ 10 points in the quarter, and they eased to a 24-point win.
