It was an emotional 2019 football season for Caldwell County, which lost its coach, David Barnes, less than a week before the regular-season opener.
The school’s football awards ceremony on Sunday was also an emotional affair as the team remembered not only Barnes, but two players who would have been seniors this season. Avery Warfield and DeAryn Hamilton died during their freshman school year.
Waynee McGowan was the interim head coach this past season, but Will Barnes has been named the head coach moving forward.
Following Sunday’s ceremony, McGowan spoke with YourSportsEdge.com about the football season, which saw the Tigers go 8-3, and Sunday’s get-together.
