
For the first eight minutes of the game Tuesday night, it must have felt like the ceiling was falling in on the Hopkinsville Lady Tigers at Henderson. The Lady Colonels dropped seven three pointers in the first quarter on their way to a 67-31 win over the Lady Tigers.
Graci Risley and Emilee Hope were a two player wrecking crew over the first 8 minutes of the contest. The two combined to score 29 points, and connect on seven 3-point shots in the opening quarter, as Henderson County blasted their way out to a 31-5 lead.
After recovering a bit from the opening onslaught, Hopkinsville was able to play head up against Henderson in the second quarter. The Lady Tigers actually cut two points off the lead, trimming the deficit to 41-17 at the break. Henderson did manage two more three pointers in the second quarter, bringing their first half total to nine.
However, any thoughts of a possible rally were quickly snuffed out by the Lady Colonels in the third quarter. Henderson drilled five more three pointers as they pushed the lead on out to 64-25 going into the final quarter, which would then be played with the running clock.
Hopkinsville was able to out score the Henderson County reserves and cut the final margin down to 36.
Donisha Flowers reached double figures for Hoptown with 14 points. Lakayla Samuel ended the night with 9 points. Shaterrea Bellamy added 5 points for the Lady Tigers.
Graci Risley finished with 30 points for Henderson County, 24 of those coming on eight 3-pointers. Emilee Hope ended up with 18 points, including four made 3-pointers. As a team, Henderson County made 14 3-pointers on the night, tying a school record.
Hopkinsville falls to 10-11, while Henderson County improves to 11-6.
