After snapping a four-game skid with a big win over Hopkinsville last time out, the Christian County boys’ basketball team couldn’t make it two in a row, dropping a 45-42 contest to the host Owensboro Catholic Aces on Tuesday night.
The Colonels fell behind early on despite 6 points from Mikeon Mathis, with the Aces taking an 11-8 advantage after one. KJ Vaughn scored 6 0f his 8 points in the second quarter and Mathis added 4 more, but Christian County still trailed at halftime 23-21.
Christian County came out of the locker room cold and was held to only 7 third-quarter points. JiAirius Webb outscored the Colonels by himself with 9, and the Aces led by 6 with a quarter to play. Mathis and Stephen Bussell combined for 12 of the Colonels’ 14 points, but they couldn’t engineer a fourth-quarter comeback.
