As we head into the final month of the regular season, it looks like there are three at the front of the pack, with the others trying to have a chance to run them down at the finish line. Can anyone outside of Henderson, Webster, or Madisonville, find a way to elevate themselves to contender status by the time we start tournament play? That is a big question that will be answered over the next few weeks as we set out sights on the beginning of district tournament play.
– Henderson County (11-6) – The northen Lady Colonels appear to be getting hot at just the right time. Henderson has won their last six in a row, including a win over Madisonville. A huge, huge, game coming up Friday night as they travel to Dixon to take on Webster County.
– Madisonville (20-1) – The Lady Maroons have responded to their loss against Henderson County with three straight comfortable wins. A big battle with Calloway County coming up, otherwise it would appear that Madisonville has a shot to run the table for the rest of the regular season.
– Webster County (7-8) – The Lady Trojans have won their last three in a row since they lost in the Class 2A tournament. We will know much more about this team after the next week. They start a run of three games against Henderson County, Muhlenberg County, and Murray.
– Trigg County (17-5) – The Lady Wildcats picked up nice back-to-back wins over Caldwell County and Lyon County. Looking at their schedule the rest of the way, they have a very good shot at having a 20 win season. A big test coming up February 3, when they face the pressure defense from Hopkinsville.
– Hopkinsville (10-11) – While the Lady Tigers have been up and down over the course of the season, they did pick up a big district win over Christian County, which will give them a shot at being the top seed in the 8th District tournament. They only go on the road one more time this season, and that is a short trip to Trigg County.
– Lyon County (9-10) – The Lady Lyons have three freshmen seeing extensive playing time, so expect nothing but growth in the future for this bunch. For the rest of this season, the focus will be on getting ready for a tough district semifinal match down the road to try and advance to the regional tournament.
– Christian County (6-11) – The southern Lady Colonels have seen their share of struggles this season. Still, their pressure defense can be difficult to handle for many teams. If they find a consistent shooting eye, this is still a dangerous team come the postseason.
