Maroons Maintain Grip on #1 in YSE Boys Super 7

The top two teams in the 2nd Region just keep on rolling along. And, to this point, neither team has lost to a team in the 2nd Region. Meanwhile, in the middle of the pack, things are a bit more up in the air. You get the feeling that on any given night, any one of those teams could find a way to pull off a big win over one of the others. We head down to the final weeks of the season, and there are still many questions to be answered for several of the teams in this week’s YSE Boys’ 2nd Region Super 7.

1 – Madisonville (19-3) – The Maroons continue to look like the class of the region. Sure, they have had some moments where they appear to get “disinterested”, but still, they just keep on keepin’ on. And remember, in two of their losses, the opponent had to hit a shot at the buzzer in regulation to force the game into overtime.

2 – Webster County (19-2) – While you thought the Trojans could be solid coming into the season, not many saw this coming for the team from Dixon. They are nine points away from possibly being 21-0 at this point of the season. It is truly a shame that there is no regular season game with the Maroons.

3 – Henderson County (13-9) – The northern Colonels may be getting things together at just the right time. Henderson has won four of their last five, with the only loss being a very competitive loss to Madisonville. Henderson is Henderson, so you may want to be wary of this team coming down the stretch.

4 – University Heights (10-9) – After looking very solid headed into the All A state tournament, the Blazers went to Richmond and struggled to find the basket, albeit against a very good Murray team. Big one coming up Friday night, as UHA travels across town to take on Hopkinsville in a key 8th District contest.

5 – Lyon County (13-8) – The Lyons appear to have battled their way through the mid-season blahs they were dealing with. Lyon County has now won three in a row after giving the Maroons all they wanted. Big border game coming up tonight as they host an improving Caldwell County team in a rematch of a game that the Lyons won by only two to open the season.

6 – Christian County (7-13) – The southern Colonels had struggled through much of the month of January, and then took Hopkinsville to the woodshed in a 15 point win last Friday night. You still just get that feeling that this is not going to be a fun team to play come the end of the month.

7 – Hopkinsville (9-13) – The Tigers have shown flashes this season of how potentially good they good be. Additionally, there are reports that Hopkinsville may be getting some good news over the next few days. This team bears watching as we head towards the 8th District tournament.
