The Warren Central Dragons, who are considered among the contenders in the 4th Region, have had a pretty good week against teams from the 8th District. For the second time in three nights, the Dragons rolled past an 8th District opponent Wednesday night, this time picking up a big 79-38 win over the Hopkinsville Tigers in Bowling Green.
The game marked the return of junior Alijah Watts to the court for the Tigers. Watts had been out since the beginning of the season.
The game belonged to Warren Central from early on in the contest. The Dragons scored the first seven points of the game, and would go on to lead 17-7 after the opening quarter.
The Tigers looked early in the 2nd quarter like they might be ready to make a run to get back in the contest, as they cut the lead to eight points. However, Warren Central finished the half out strong and took a 36-21 lead into the locker room at the break. Don Victor kept the Tigers within shouting distance in the opening half, scoring 15 of the Tigers’s 21 points.
The Dragons put the game away in the third quarter. The Dragon defense limited Hoptown to just seven points, as they ran the lead out to 58-28 by quarter’s end.
Warren Central got out to the running clock early on in the final quarter and then finished out to the 41 point win.
Don Victor had a big night for Hopkinsville, finishing with 22 points. Javon Smith-Rudd added 8 points. Alijah Watts finished with two points in his return to the lineup for the Tigers.
