Maroons Stay Camped Out at Top of YSE Boys Super 7

A bit of upheaval this week in the YSE Boys 2nd Region Super 7. However, the top spot still belongs to the team that held it before the season got underway. As the weeks go by, Madisonville looks more and more like a prohibitive favorite as the postseason draws ever nearer. It there a team that can gear it up here late and pose a threat to the Maroons when the 2nd Region tournament gets underway? The answer to that question is yet to be seen.

1 – Madisonville (21-3) – The Maroons blasted Union County and Owensboro Catholic and now have a 10 game winning streak. They have been at the top all season, and nothing indicates that they will not be there when the postseason gets underway in less than three weeks.

2 – University Heights (11-9) – Take away the disaster at McBrayer, and the Blazers have won their last six straight. UHA looked impressive in completely taking Hopkinsville out of the game last Friday. When they are on, this is still a dangerous team that could cause problems at tournament time.

3 – Lyon County (15-9) – The Lyons have now won five of their last six games, and picked up a solid road win at Dixon over Webster County. After some bumps in the road during the middle of the season, the Lyons appear to be back on stride headed down the stretch of the season.

4 – Henderson County (14-10) – The northern Colonels picked up a nice overtime win against Webster County, but then turned around and dropped an overtime decision to Union County. The 6th District tournament could be quite the interesting affair this season. Mark down February 13, when the Colonels and the Trojans have round two.

5 – Webster County (19-4) – The Trojans have now dropped back to back games for the first time this season. More than that, the two losses came on their home court. With 6th District seeding still completely up in the air, they have two huge games coming up with Henderson County and Union County, who just dropped Henderson.

6 – Union County (9-13) – The Braves have been through a season of turmoil and are still a bit hard to figure out. That said, they did knock off Henderson County, which kept them in the thick of the 6th District regular season race. A big one Friday night at Webster County.

7 – Christian County (8-15) – One of the challenges this season for the southern Colonels has been trying to keep the same lineup on the court. When they are healthy and everyone is there, this can still be a team to cause problems for any other team on this list. Return match with UHA coming up February 11.
