Two Hoptown Tigers Named to AP All-State Football Team

Hopkinsville freshman Daisjuan Mercer was named to the Associated Press First Team All-State Football Team.

Two Hopkinsville football players were named to the Associated Press All-State Football Team announced Wednesday.

Daisjuan Mercer was named First Team defensive back, and Reece Jesse was named Second-Team receiver by AP voters across the state.

Mercer, a freshman, had nine interceptions for the Tigers in 2019 which was third most in a season behind Bradon Hayes (12) and Wilbur Benson (10).  He had three interceptions in a district game against Logan County.  Mercer also had two pass break-ups.

Jesse, a junior, caught 67 passes for 1,184 yards in 2019 –both establishing new school records.  He also had 15 touchdown receptions which was two shy of the school record.  He has received several offers from Power 5 schools.
