Looking to get back in the win column after nine-straight defeats, the Fort Campbell boys’ basketball battled back from a fourth-quarter deficit to force overtime, before knocking off hosts Christian Fellowship 66-65 on Friday night.

After leading through much of the first quarter, the Falcon lead was 1 after a pull-up jumper by Aaron Hall with :22 left, but Christian Fellowship’s Andrew Dunning had his prayer answered with a half-court heave to beat the buzzer and give the Eagles a 10-8 edge.

Dunning knocked down another 3-pointer to put the Eagles in front 15-11 and force a Fort Campbell timeout with 4:45 left in the half.  Cameron Pratt drilled his first 3 of the game from his favorite spot in the corner, followed by a jumper from Hall to pull the Falcons to within a point, but they would trail 20-16 at the halftime break.

The third quarter was tight throughout, with the last of four ties coming with 2:48 left after Ke’Shawn Daniels scored and was fouled, but missed the free throw.  Nate Massey followed with 1 of 2 free throws on the next possession to nudge the Falcons in front 32-31, but Mikey Bivin hit a 3 and scored in the lane to put the Eagles back in front by 4 with a quarter to play.

After trailing by 5 early, the Falcons began to pound the ball down low and got points in the paint from Daniels, Hall and Jeremiah Holley.  A Pratt 3-p0inter tied the game at 48-48 with 2:56 on the clock, but Dunning converted a 3-point play with just over two minutes left to put the Eagles in front by 4.  The margin was 2 after another Dunning bucket, but Hall drove and scored to once again tie the game at 56-56 with :05 left.  Both teams turned the ball over before a Christian Fellowship shot rolled off at the buzzer.

Dunning scored the first 4 points of overtime for the Eagles, but a timely Pratt 3-pointer trimmed the deficit to 1.  After the Falcons had nosed in front, Dunning hit 1 of 2 free throws to tie the game at 65-65 with :48 left.  Looking to match his heroics from the fourth quarter, Hall drove and was fouled with :20.9 on the clock.  He would hit 1 of 2, setting up a final opportunity for Christian Fellowship to steal the win, but Dunning’s contested shot from close range wouldn’t go down.

The Falcons shot 26/59 from the field for 44%, including 7/21 from long range.  They were outrebounded by the Eagles 40-28, 16-8 on the offensive glass.
