Lady Colonels Beat Trigg in Low-Scoring Affair

2-8-mcgee

Ugly wins and ugly losses only count once, and that’s a good thing for both Christian County and Trigg County.  On their senior night, the Lady Colonels handed the Lady Wildcats a 33-24 loss at Lyle Dunbar Gymnasium.

It was a game that saw both teams combine to miss 99 shots from the field and commit 36 turnovers.  In the end, Christian County did just enough to pick up their fourth win in their last six outings.

Trigg County missed 13 of their first 14 shots from the field and fell behind 12-3 after one quarter.

In the second quarter, it was Christian County’s turn to miss the basket.  They went over 12 minutes without a field goal.  During that stretch, Trigg outscored the Lady Colonels 11-2.

Eniya McGee scored six straight points as Christian County ended the third quarter on an 8-3 run to lead 22-17 after 24 minutes.

Emily Noffsinger hit back-to-back 3-pointers to give Trigg County their first lead at 23-22 with 6:45 left.  It would be Trigg’s last field goal of the game.

Christian County took advantage of eight Trigg turnovers in the final quarter and scored eight points off the mistakes.

Trigg hit 2-of-11 shots in the fourth quarter and 8-of-56 (14%) for the game.  Christian County didn’t fare much better (10-of-61) but hit two more shots and six more free throws.

Emily Noffsinger hit four 3-pointers and finished with 12 points.  Rylee Bush added six points and 12 rebounds.

McGee led Christian County with 11 points, eight rebounds, and five blocked shots.  Mikayah Killebrew added nine points and four steals.  Serenity Shemwell didn’t score but grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds.

Christian County has won nine straight games against Trigg County and 27-of-31 overall.  Trigg’s last win over the Lady Colonels came in 1996.

The Lady Colonels (9-13) travel to Fort Campbell Monday, while Trigg County (19-7) plays at Hopkins County Central Tuesday.
