Christian County Sees Cardinals Fly Away Late With Win

The Christian County Colonels appeared to have the Taylor County Cardinals right where they wanted them. After leading virtually the entire game, the Colonels had a 12 point lead entering the final quarter. However, the Cardinals dug deep and rallied for a 79-73 win in the Robbie Davis Memorial Classic at Clinton County.

The Colonel defense came out ready to lock down on Taylor County, limiting the Cardinals to just eight first quarter points as Chrisitan County took a 15-8 lead.

Christian County’s defense continued to play well in the 2nd quarter. The Colonels held Taylor County to just 11 points in the quarter, as the Colonels extended the lead to 28-19 at the half. Kobe Dillard had 9 points in the opening half, while Mikeon Mathis added 8. Stephen Bussell chipped in with six more in the half.

The Colonels looked ready to put the game away in the third quarter, as their offense got things revved up. Christian County extended the lead to 52-40 heading into the final eight minutes.

The Cardinals then came out at the beginning of the 4th quarter and hit the Colonels with a 16-7 run to cut the lead to 59-56 halfway through the quarter. A three pointer tied the game at 63-63 inside the final three minutes. Taylor County then finished with a fury, outscoring the Colonels 16-10 to hand Christian County its third straight loss.

Christian County was led by Mikeon Mathis with 19 points. Kobe Dillard added 17 points. Stephen Bussell ended the game with 12 points. Bubba Leavell also reached double figures with 11.

The loss drops Christian County to 8-16 on the season. The Colonels return to action Monday night on the road in an 8th District matchup at Fort Campbell.
