The top seed in the boys 8th District tournament will be on the line Tuesday night after the Christian County Colonels rolled past Fort Campbell 63-38 Monday evening on post. Christian County will now play UHA Tuesday night in Blazer Gym, and with a win, the Colonels would force a coin toss to determine the top seed in the 8th District tourney, which starts February 24.
Monday night, the Falcons got on the board first with a basket from Jeremiah Holley to go up 2-0. By the time Fort Campbell would score again, the game was essentially out of reach. Christian County scored the last 19 points of the first quarter and the first three of the second to take a 22-2 lead.
For the rest of the half, the two teams played pretty much even. The Colonels were able to extend the lead to 36-12 going into the locker room at the half.
The Falcons came out of the break and went on a 9-2 run to cut the lead to 38-21. The Colonels promptly responded with a 9-2 run of their own to extend the lead back out to 47-23. The third quarter ended with Christian County up 49-30.
Fort Campbell could get no closer than 19 points over the final eight minutes, as Christian County moved out to the 25 point win.
A big night for Christian County’s Stephen Bussell, who ended up with 27 points, including four 3-pointers. Mikeon Mathis was the other Colonel to reach double figures with 14 points. Olajuwon White added 7 points, all of them coming in the first quarter.
Fort Campbell was led by Cameron Pratt with 16 points. Jeremiah Holley hit double figures for the game with ten. In addition to being on the wrong side of the 22-0 run, the Falcons struggled at the free throw line, missing 14 shots.
Christian County improves to 9-16 with the win, while Fort Campbell falls to 7-18.
