It took six days and two different gyms, but Caldwell County’s picked up a 47-37 win over 7th District rival Hopkins County Central.

The Lady Tigers used a balanced scoring attack to turn back the Lady Storm in a game that started last Tuesday at Hopkins County Central High School.
However, heavy rains led to leaks and a wet floor in Mortons Gap. That forced the game to be suspended in the first quarter with Hopkins Central up 5-2.

The game was scheduled to resume on Monday, but rains again made playing at Hopkins Central problematic. So the contest was moved to South Hopkins Middle School — the former home of the South Hopkins High School Tomcats before consolidation in 1996.

Hopkins Central led 11-8 following one quarter after the game was resumed.

But Caldwell used a 16-7 advantage in the second period to get to halftime with a 24-18 advantage.

The Lady Tigers (12-11 overall, 4-2 district) led by as much as 11 points in the third period before going to the final frame up 31-25.

The Lady Storm (6-14, 2-4) got as close as three points early in the fourth quarter. But Caldwell never surrendered the lead.

The Lady Tigers eventually rebuilt their 11-point margin before holding on for the 10-point triumph.

Lucy Goffinet scored 10 points to lead Caldwell while Majah Hollowell and Morgan McDaniels each had nine points. Jacey Jaggers scored eight points while Karsyn Parker had a game-high 14 rebounds to go with six points.

Hailie Hollis led Hopkins Central with nine points. Brianna Fritz had seven.
Caldwell’s victory broke a tie in the all-time series. The Lady Tigers now lead in that category 30-29.

Caldwell has another “throwback” game on Tuesday when the Lady Tigers host Crittenden County at Butler Gym in downtown Princeton as part of a girls and boys doubleheader.

Hopkins Central will host Trigg County on Tuesday.
