Fort Campbell’s Jesus Avila is headed back to the state wrestling tournament for a third time.
The Falcon senior finished fourth Saturday at the region meet which qualified him for the state tournament in the 195-pound class. He enters the weekend ranked No. 10 in the state in the weight class.
Avila (24-10) will begin his day Friday against Region 3 champ Chandler Miller of DeSales, who is ranked No. 3 in the state.
Avila will be attempting to become the first Falcon wrestler since Gino Haywood in 2015 to finish in the top four. Fort Campbell has never had a wrestler finish in the top four in the 195-pound class.
The first round of the state tournament begins Friday at Alltech Arena in Lexington and continues Saturday.
