Madisonville, Henderson, and Trigg County are represented in the regional coach and player of the year awards presented by the Kentucky Association of Basketball Coaches. The recipients were announced by the KABC Friday morning.
On the boys side, Madisonville-North Hopkins took home both awards. Matt Beshear was named the KABC 2nd Region “Coach of the Year”, while the Maroons’ Kenny White took the “Player of the Year” award.
The Maroons, who are the defending 2nd Region champs, as well as the favorites to win the title again this season, enter Friday with a record of 23-3, and are on a 12 game winning streak . White is averaging 18.9 points and 8.0 rebounds per game for Madisonville.
In the girls awards, Cory Coble has coached the Trigg County Lady Wildcats to one of their best seasons in school history. Trigg County enters Friday with a record of 20-7 and are the defending 5th District champions.
Henderson County’s Emilee Hope was selected as the girls’ 2nd Region “Player of the Year.” Hope is currently averaging 20.4 points and 5.5 rebounds per game for the Lady Colonels. She has also made 77 of 170 from behind the 3-point line.
The “Player of the Year” award winners automatically become finalists for the Mr. and Mrs. Basketball awards.
