Hopkinsville’s Don Victor and Alijah Watts combined for 41 points on Tuesday night at Bowling Green, helping the Tigers knock off the 4th Region’s top team, 69-65. The win is the third-straight and fourth in five tries for the Tigers, while the Purples have a two-game winning run stopped. Hoptown will be back on the road on Wednesday to face Henderson County.
Watts got the Tigers off to a strong start with 7 first-quarter points, but they trailed the Purples 14-11 after one. Dorian Morrison scored all 12 of his points in the second for Bowling Green, but Jamarcus Burks responded with 8 to help the Tigers outscore the Purples by a point for a 28-26 Bowling Green advantage at the half.
After only scoring 3 points in the first half, Victor got going with 8 points in the third for the Tigers. Watts added 7, and Hoptown overcame 9 points by Bowling Green’s Conner Cooper to take a 47-43 lead into the fourth.
Isaiah Mason erupted for 11 points in the fourth for the Purples, but Victor countered with 10, while Arthur McKnight scored 6 of his 10 to help the Tigers hold on for the upset victory.
