The Marshall County Lady Marshals used a big 2nd quarter to roll past the Hopkinsville Lady Tigers 60-36 Tuesday night in Draffenville. The Lady Marshals ouscored Hoptown 24-4 in the second quarter to effectively put the game in the win column.
The Lady Tigers stayed within earshot of the Lady Marshals early in the contest. Led by the play of Cayson Conner and Layne Pea, Marshall County was able to take a 17-12 lead after the opening quarter.
The second quarter saw the Lady Marshals clamp down defensively on the Lady Tigers. Marshall County limited Hopkinsville to just two field goals in the quarter, as the blew the lead out to 41-16 going into halftime.
Hopkinsville’s defense tightened up on Marshall County in the 2nd half. In fact, the Lady Tigers would actually outscore Marshall County in the second half, but by that time the damage had been done as Marshall County took the 24 point win.
Hoptown was led by Donisha Flowers with 14 points. Jakiyah Hinton finished with 8 points for the Lady Tigers. Shatera Bellamy added six points.
Cayson Conner was Marshall County’s top scorer with 15 points. Layne Pea and Presley Jezik added 12 points each.
The loss drops Hopkinsville to 13-14. The Lady Tigers will wrap up the regular season Thursday at home when they host South Warren.
