It’s hard to believe, but the regular season ends this week, and district tournament play begins Monday. As we reach the final moments of the regular season, one thing has remained constant, and that being the three teams occupying the top three slots in the YSE Girls’ 2nd Region Super 7. The “Big 3” have been in a club of their own at the top of the list for the entire season, and it will take a big effort from another team in the region to keep one of the three of them from making the trip to Rupp Arena in March. Here is a look at the final Girls Super 7 of the season.
– Henderson County (19-6) – The northen Lady Colonels ended the regular season with a 14 game winning streak. Their last loss came on January 11 to Elizabethtown. With their top seed in the 6th District tournament, they have already clinched a berth in the 2nd Region tourny, so they are just three wins away from going back to back.
– Madisonville (24-1) – The Lady Maroons are a road loss to Henderson County away from being unbeaten. They close out the season Thursday on the road at Apollo, before getting ready for the 7th District tournament, in which they will be a very heavy favorite.
– Webster County (14-10) – The Lady Trojans had to rally in the second half Tuesday night to take down a game Christian County squad. Their only losses since January 11 have been to Henderson County, who they will very likely play for the 6th District championship next week.
– Hopkinsville (13-14) – The Lady Tigers have lost three of their last four, but let’s note that those losses were to Marshall County, Webster County, and McCracken County. They close out the season Thursday against South Warren, as they set their sights on the 8th District tournament championship next week.
– Christian County (11-16) – The southern Lady Colonels led Webster County Tuesday night into the second half before things got away from them. They now set their sights on their district opener Monday night when they will take on University Heights with a berth in the regional tournament on the line.
– Caldwell County (14-13) – The Lady Tigers appear to have figured out their roles in the wake of the loss of point guard Jada Boyd for the season. They lost a tough one to Ohio County, but laid a beatdown on the Trigg County Lady Wildcats. They close out the season Friday against Livingston Central before a big showdown with Hopkins Central in the 7th District.
– Trigg County (21-8) – The Lady Wildcats had a really, really tough night at Caldwell County. They rebounded Tuesday night with their 21st win of the season in a victory over Dawson Springs. They close out the regular season Thursday night at home against Fort Campbell, before getting ready with what could be a tough matchup against Lyon County in the 5th District tourney.
