
The Todd County Central girls’ basketball team built some mometum ahead of Monday’s 13th District tournament matchup with Logan County, holding visiting Fort Campbell scoreless in the first half on the way to a 46-22 win over the Lady Falcons on Saturday. Fort Campbell will begin postseason play on Monday as well, meeting top-seeded Hopkinsville in the 8th District tourney.
Fort Campbell failed to get on the scoreboard in the first half, but Todd County’s Jayla Leavell scored 6 in the first quarter to get the Lady Rebels rolling. Todd County continued to stretch the lead in the second, taking a 26-0 advantage into the halftime locker room.
The Lady Falcons were able to generate some offense out of the break, with Marissa Cole and Asia Cabili each scoring 4 points in the third quarter. However, Leavell knocked down two 3-pointers to help the Lady Rebels outscore Fort Campbell 11-8 for a 29-point cushion with a quarter to play.
Cole kept the hot hand for Fort Campbell in the fourth, adding 8 points to her team-high 12. The Lady Falcons enjoyed their only double-figure quarter, outscoring Todd County 14-9 for the final margin.
The Lady Falcons came up empty from 3-point land, while shooting 11/52 from the field. The Lady Rebels were 19/65, including 6/32 from 3, but they put a 46-31 rebounding advantage to good use. The missed shot proved to be the best offense, with Todd County pulling down 22 offensive rebounds.
