Caldwell County’s all-time winningest pitcher Shane Burns is off to a strong start at Murray State University this season.
The sophomore left-hander threw five innings and picked up the win in the Racers’ 11-1 victory over Saint Peter’s on Saturday.
In two starts this season, Burns is 1-1, but has thrown 10 innings, allowing just one earned run on five base hits. He has struck out 15 and walked seven while surrendering just one extra-base hit.
At Caldwell, Burns became the school’s all-time winningest pitcher, posting a 31-8 mark and helping the school capture two 2nd Region championships.
Against Saint Peter’s, Burns gave up just one run on two hits. He fanned eight while walking five.
Burns started the first game of Saturday’s twinbill in Murray.
The Racers also defeated the Peacocks in game two 10-3 and have taken the first three games of a four-game set with Saint Peter’s.
The Racers (3-4) and Peacocks (0-7) will wrap up their series Sunday at 12 p.m. at Reagan Field.
