The 7th District tournament has been pretty balanced over the last three years.
Madisonville-North Hopkins won the title last season while Caldwell County claimed the championship two years ago. Hopkins County Central captured the crown three years ago.
But the 2020 tourney was all Madisonville. The Lady Maroons rolled past Caldwell 68-33 in Thursday’s championship game just three nights after routing Dawson Springs 63-33 in the semifinals.
The Lady Maroons (27-1) will carry a 10-game winning streak into the 2nd Region tournament next week at Christian County High School.
The Lady Tigers (16-14) will also advance to regional play as the 7th District runner-up.
Caldwell, which fell to Madisonville for the third time this season, tried to make a game of it early in the finals.
The game was tied 2-2, 5-5, 7-7 and 9-9.
But Madisonville scored the next 11 points to go up 20-9 after 8 minutes.
That was part of a 25-3 run that stretched the margin to 34-12.
By halftime, the Lady Maroons held a 40-16 advantage.
It was 60-21 through three quarters.
Camryn LaGrange scored 28 points to pace Madisonville to its second straight title while Courtney Peyton had 23.
Bella McConnell led Caldwell with nine points. Majah Hollowell added seven.
The regional draw is set for Saturday morning.
As a district champion, Madisonville will draw either Crittenden County, Henderson County or Christian County.
As a runner-up, Caldwell will face either Webster County, Hopkinsville or Trigg County.
First-round action will take place Monday and Tuesday at Christian County.
