Guancheng Lu came to Heritage Christian Academy four years ago as a foreign exchange student from China. Thursday, he leaves Hopkinsville to embark on the next chapter of his life but will be remembered fondly by the HCA family.
Guancheng stayed with several families during his time in Hopkinsville, obtaining his student visa after his first year here. He quickly became involved in activities at Heritage Christian Academy, including serving as manager of the boys’ basketball team. However, he is most known for the work he did in creating and producing the highlight videos for the HCA athletic teams. HCA Athletic Director Candy Hayes said Guancheng had returned to China to visit his family and still was able to produce and send her a completed video.
Guancheng was honored at Heritage Christian Academy’s girls’ basketball game Monday and presented with a picture highlighting his time at the school. He plans to study civil engineering at the University of Buffalo but said he will journey back to Hopkinsville at some point.
Based on how HCA embraced Guancheng when he first arrived, he will no doubt be welcomed back in the same way when he returns.
