Madisonville freshman Joy Alexander got her track season off to a fantastic start by winning three events at the Class 3A Indoor State Track and Field Championships Saturday at Mason County.
Alexander won the 800-meter run in a time of 2:45.04 and took first in the 1600 meters in 5:53.58. In both races, she edged Grant County’s Audrey Shelton at the finish line.
There was no such drama in the 3000 meters as Alexander took first place in a time of 11:48.17, which was 24 seconds ahead of the second place runner.
Alexander scored 30 points for Madisonville which was good for a seventh place finish in the team standings.
