Last season, the Hopkinsville Tigers made their late season run all the way to the regional championship. This year, they will start off the season at the top of the list on the preseason YSE 2nd Region Baseball Super 7. However, there are some very good teams that will have their sights set on the top as well, so this could be an active season up and down the list of the Super 7.
– Hopkinsville (21-14) – The Tigers caught fire at just the right time last season, and carried that momentum all the way to the state baseball sectional. The experience their young players got during that run and the return of some key veterans will have the Tigers at the top of the list to start the 2020 season.
– Henderson County (21-16) – The Colonels were one of those teams to get caught up in the Hopkinsville run at the end of the season, losing to the Tigers in the regional semis. The Colonels did lose 11 seniors from the roster, but bring back a talented core to start the season.
– Lyon County (24-11) – The loss of Gabe Board will be felt from both a production and a leadership standpoint. But, the Lyons bring back a truckload of talent from last season, and Travis Perry is set to join the team for 2020. The defending All A regional champs will be heavy favorites to repeat there, and could take home the overall regional title as well.
– Madisonville (20-15) – The Maroons could climb on this list early in the season. They lost a tough one run decision to Hopkinsville in the regional tournament last year, and led by Jon Hogart, Madisonville could very well contend for the regional title in 2020. Keep an eye out on this bunch early on.
– Caldwell County (18-16) – Graduation losses have not been kind to the Tigers over the past three years. Even with some big losses from last season, the Tigers look like the biggest threat to Madisonville in the 7th District, and could be a dark horse in the region after reaching the title game last season. Keep watch on Cody Holub and Tate VanHooser.
– Crittenden County (18-17) – The Rockets won the games they were supposed to win last season and made it to the region tournament. A good deal of young talent comes back for Crittenden County, which makes them the most likely team to challenge Lyon County in the 5th District.
– University Heights (17-14) – The Blazers took their lumps at time last season with a really young roster. Replacing Drew McGowan, who is now down at Mississippi State, will be a big challenge, but their young, talented players have another year under their belts and figure to cause teams many more problems this season.
