Among the sports casualties from the KHSAA-mandated spring dead period implemented Friday is spring football practice.
Schools are allowed to conduct 10 football practices during a three-week period once basketball season ends. This year, the three-week period falls in the spring dead period that is slated to end on April 11 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Schools have until December 15 to submit their spring dates to the KHSAA. It’s unlikely the KHSAA will adjust the summer schedule to compensate for the loss of spring practice.
The KHSAA did away with spring football practice in 1977 but brought it back in 1998.
