A pair of state champions have been announced for the 2020 West Kentucky Hoops Classic in Princeton.
Defending Class 6A state champion from Alabama, the Huffman Vikings from Birmingham, will be at Caldwell County’s CAB gym Dec. 28-29, as will the Ridge View Blazers from Columbia, South Carolina.
Ridge View is the first South Carolina team for the Hoops Classic. The Blazers have won three straight Class 4A championships in South Carolina.
Ridge View was 23-8 this past season. Meanwhile, Huffman went 32-3 in Alabama.
One other note from the West Kentucky Hoops Classic. Kam Woods, whose Pinson Valley, Alabama, team went 2-0 in Princeton last December, has been named the Alabama Class 6A Player of the Year.
Woods had 49 points, including the game-winning 3-pointer in the closing seconds, in an 84-82 win over North Little Rock, Arkansas. Woods also hit for 31 points in a 79-76 victory over Holly Springs, Mississippi.
Woods averaged 38.1 points a game this season for the Indians while winning his third-straight state Player of the Year award.
Pinson Valley lost in the regional semifinals this past season, falling to Huffman, which is coming to this year’s West Kentucky Hoops Classic.
Host Caldwell County will also play a pair of games in the Hoops Classic, meaning three of the 10 boys’ teams for the 2020 event have been announced.
