A coach with 150 career wins at the high school level has been named Trigg County’s next football coach. Mark Peach was introduced by the school Monday outside the high school.

Peach recently served as head coach at Anderson County for 15 seasons, posting a 114-65 record.  His coaching contract was not renewed by the school following a 4-7 season in 2019.

Peach left Anderson County as the school’s all-time winningest coach and won 14 playoff games in his tenure. In addition to two region championships, Anderson County was the state runner-up in 2011.  Twice, the Bearcats entered the postseason with a 10-0 record.  He is a three-time district coach of the year and was voted Class 5A state coach of the year in 2007.

Peach has prior knowledge of Trigg County.  He attended Campbellsville University and was a teammate of former Wildcat All-State running back Greg Bridges.

He was also Hancock County’s coach in 1999-2000 when the Hornets were in the same Class A district as the Wildcats. Led by Mr. Football Travis Atwell, the Hornets beat Trigg County 62-19 in 1999 on their way to the Class A state championship game.  Trigg got their revenge on Peach and Hancock County the following year with a 52-28 win over the Hornets at Perdue Field.

Peach left Hancock County for Paul Laurence Dunbar where he was 17-8 in two seasons.  He was Campbellsville University’s head coach in 2003-04, leading the Tigers to a 15-7 record and a national NAIA ranking.

While at Anderson County, Peach also served on the coaching staff of several statewide all-star teams and was the Kentucky All-Star coach last year.  He also serves on the KHSAA Football Advisory committee.

Peach said he wants to have a balanced offensive attack and a defense that will look to stop the run first.

Trigg County High School Principal Shannon Burcham said Peach was selected from a pool of 15 applicants.  Burcham said Peach will have a teaching position I the school to be determined later.

Peach replaces Coby Lewis who stepped down this month after nine seasons and 45 wins.
