With the spring sports season in the books prematurely, YourSportsEdge.com has reached out to coaches, and they have provided us with information and comments on their seniors. We will be recognizing the Class of 2020 for the remainder of what would have been the spring sports season.
C.J. Ahart is an outfielder for the Trigg County High School baseball team.
C.J. has been an outfielder with us for the past three years, as well as an excellent baserunner. One thing that was for sure, he was going to be crucial for us on the bases. For the past three or four years, C.J. has been working to be one our our key runners to sub in for a catcher or pitcher as a courtesy runner. This is one of the most underrated positions in the game,” Trigg County Coach Tyler Magan said.
“Everyone wants to hit .400 or throw 90 mph, but what matters in baseball is who scores the most runs. As as courtesy runner, you get the chance to put runs on the board every time you get out there. That’s your job. C.J. did that very well. He understood his role and played it well. His high base running IQ coupled with his lateral quickness and speed allowed him to get great jumps and earn extra bases and extra runs that were critical to helping us win games,” Magan said.
“C.J. is a kid who I have always had fun talking to. We can talk church, hunting, fishing, or just shoot the breeze. One thing I have always admired about C.J. is a dedication to his family. Often times when I go to the basketball games, I see C.J. sitting with his family, playing with his niece, there to watch his brother Dallas play. I also admire C.J.’s willingness to stand up for Christ in a public setting. C.J. is one of two seniors who regularly lead prayers for our team prior/at the end of games and practices. C.J. is not embarrassed to stand up for Christ and lead in a way that others would not,” Magan said.
